## Description

**Exide Li-Ion (LiFePO4) lithium motorcycle batteries**: the lightest, most powerful way to start your bike. They weigh far less than an equivalent lead-acid battery, deliver more cranking current, barely self-discharge and include a BMS that protects against overcharge and deep discharge.
Pick yours by the code of your current battery: every Exide ELT model directly replaces the lead-acid YTX, YTZ and YT references (*ELTX9 = YTX9-BS, ELTZ7S = YTZ7S, ELTX14H = YTX14-BS…*), same size and polarity. Express delivery and official warranty.
Buy online with **express delivery in 24-48 h**, official Exide warranty and technical advice. Not sure which model your bike takes? Find it by make and model in the [motorcycle battery finder](https://baterias.com/gb/motorcycle-batteries).

## Lithium, AGM or lead-acid: what really changes

A LiFePO4 lithium motorcycle battery is not just "lighter": it changes service life, self-discharge and starting behaviour. Indicative comparison:
LiFePO4 lithium (Exide Li-Ion) AGM Conventional lead-acid
**Weight** A third to a half Reference Similar to AGM
**Life cycles** Over 2,000 300–500 200–300
**Monthly self-discharge** 2–3% 3–5% 5–10%
**Cold cranking** Very high (wake up for a few seconds below 0 °C) Good Average
**Maintenance** None, built-in BMS None Check acid level
**Mounting position** Any Any Upright only
**Price** Higher Medium Low

## Exide, a world-leading manufacturer

**Exide Technologies** is one of the world's leading battery manufacturers, with over a century of history and factories across Europe, and owns the **Tudor** brand, the historic reference in Spain. Its Li-Ion motorcycle range applies that experience to LiFePO4 cells: built-in BMS, the same dimensions as the lead-acid batteries they replace and an official manufacturer warranty.

## Which bikes benefit most from lithium

The natural choice for **sport, naked, adventure, custom and race bikes**, where every kilo counts and instant starting is expected; also for **scooters and maxi-scooters** that sit for weeks, thanks to minimal self-discharge. Before switching, check your motorcycle manufacturer's recommendations. As a rule, any 12 V petrol motorcycle with a charging regulator in good condition (13.8–14.6 V) will usually accept a lithium battery. Most searched brands:

## Fitting, activation and charging

- Check the code of your current battery and pick the equivalent Exide ELT model.
- Ignition off: disconnect the negative terminal first, then the positive; fit the new one in reverse order.
- No acid activation needed: it arrives charged and sealed. If it has been in storage, charge it before fitting.
- Use a charger with a lithium mode (or a lead-acid charger without desulphation or equalisation). Never exceed 14.6 V.
- Below freezing, switch the ignition on for a few seconds before starting so the BMS wakes the battery.

## Lithium motorcycle battery FAQs

### **Can I fit a lithium battery to any motorcycle?**

In most cases yes, but check your motorcycle manufacturer's recommendations first. As a general rule, any 12 V petrol motorcycle with a charging regulator in good condition (13.8–14.6 V) will usually accept a lithium battery. If yours meets that condition, choose the Exide ELT model matching the code of your current battery: size and polarity match.

### **How long does a lithium motorcycle battery last?**

In normal use, several times longer than lead-acid: over 2,000 charge cycles versus 300–500 for an AGM. The BMS prevents the deep discharges that shorten life.

### **Does it cope with the cold?**

Yes. Below 0 °C the battery needs to "wake up": switch the ignition on for a few seconds (lights, dash) before starting and it recovers full power.

### **Will my usual charger work?**

A lead-acid charger without desulphation or equalisation modes works; a charger with a lithium mode is ideal. Never exceed 14.6 V.

### **How much lighter is it than lead-acid?**

A third to a half: the ELTX9 weighs 0.7 kg versus roughly 3 kg for a lead-acid YTX9-BS.

### **Does it need maintenance or activation?**

No. It arrives sealed and charged, with no acid, and the built-in BMS protects against overcharge and deep discharge. Just recharge it if it sits unused for months.

### **What about warranty and delivery?**

Official Exide warranty and express delivery in 24-48 h; free returns within 14 days.
