Varta D52 12V 60Ah 680A is a dedicated Start-Stop battery with AGM/EFB technology. Withstands intensive cycling at traffic-light stops (hundreds of cranks per day), recharges quickly while driving and keeps comfort loads alive during long idle periods.

The Varta D52 car battery is the 12 V, 60 Ah model with 680 A of cold cranking power (EN) from Varta's Dynamic AGM (formerly Silver Dynamic AGM) range, intended for cars with a Start-Stop system and high electrical demand. It replaces the original battery with no modifications in cars using the 242 × 175 × 190 mm format: the same 60 Ah capacity and the same terminal layout (positive on the right).
With 60 Ah, the Varta D52 is sized for cars with a Start-Stop system and high electrical demand, as a direct replacement for the original battery. Check that it matches your current battery in dimensions, terminals and hold-down: this reference weighs 17,5 kg and has terminal 1 and a B13 hold-down.
The Varta D52 is made in the 242 × 175 × 190 mm format and weighs 17,5 kg. The positive terminal on the right determines which side the cables end up on: it is the detail that causes the most buying mistakes, so it is worth checking before you order. It uses a B13 hold-down and terminal 1, the system that anchors it to the vehicle's battery tray. Checking the three dimensions and the terminal position before buying avoids the most common error when replacing a battery.
The Dynamic AGM range (gold label) is Varta's flagship for cars: AGM technology, with the electrolyte absorbed into glass fibre, designed for the most advanced Start-Stop systems and for braking energy recovery.
It withstands thousands of charge and discharge cycles without losing performance and is the only correct choice when the car came with AGM as standard. Ideal for vehicles with high electrical consumption and very frequent starts.
The difference from a conventional battery lies in the construction: separators and plates prepared for thousands of partial charge and discharge cycles. Fitting a standard battery in a car with Start-Stop drastically shortens its life; this range avoids that mistake and keeps the fuel-saving system working. This battery used to belong to Varta's Silver Dynamic AGM range; following the brand's commercial renaming (2025), it forms part of the new Dynamic AGM series.
When a workshop recommends Varta it is not down to marketing: it is one of the brands with the lowest return rates in the sector, with an application coverage spanning practically the whole European fleet, from the city car to the commercial vehicle.
Varta batteries are made under the Clarios group with German technology and quality controls that make them one of the best-selling choices in Europe. As a lead battery, it is 100% recyclable through any collection point.
Varta is Europe's leading maker of starter batteries: its production volume and quality controls guarantee consistent reliability batch after batch, something own-brand makes cannot always promise.
The Varta D52 battery comes with a 2-year official warranty from the manufacturer.
In a vehicle with Start-Stop the battery works much harder, so it pays to drive far enough for it to recharge and to always replace it with the same type (AGM for AGM, EFB for EFB) so the electronic management is not thrown out of calibration. To get the best from it, avoid overly short journeys, which prevent it from recharging after each start. Keeping the terminals clean and the hold-down secure prevents faults caused by vibration in the engine bay.

Step-by-step guide to replace your car battery in 15-30 minutes (longer if the battery is under the seat or in the boot) without losing vehicle settings.
Park on a flat surface, switch off the engine and remove the key. Make sure all lights and electrical accessories are off. Wait 1-2 minutes before starting.
Open the bonnet. The battery is usually in the engine bay, but in many modern cars it may be in the boot or under the passenger seat. Check the manual if you cannot find it.
Use the 10 mm wrench to loosen the negative cable nut (black, marked −) and remove the cable from the post. Move it aside so it cannot touch any bodywork.
Repeat with the positive cable (red, marked +). Important: never let a terminal touch metal of the car while the other is still connected.
Loosen the bottom hold-down clamp with the same wrench. Lift the battery carefully (it can weigh 15-25 kg). Clean the tray with a brush and baking soda if there is corrosion.
Place the battery in the same orientation as the old one (positive terminal on the same side). Tighten the hold-down clamp firmly.
Connect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (−). Tighten the nuts with the wrench until each terminal does not move. Apply anti-spark grease if you have any.
Close the bonnet. Start the engine to confirm everything works. On cars with Start-Stop or a BMS, you may need to register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.
Yes. The D52 from Varta uses AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology: a sealed lead-acid battery where the electrolyte is absorbed in a glass-fibre mat. It withstands more charge/discharge cycles than a conventional one, handles heat better and is the required technology for cars with advanced Start-Stop and regenerative braking. Expected lifespan: 5-8 years under normal conditions.
Yes. As AGM technology it is designed for Start-Stop vehicles. AGM batteries support advanced Start-Stop and regenerative braking thanks to their higher cycle count. EFB is recommended for basic Start-Stop; AGM is recommended when regenerative braking is also present, thanks to its higher cycle capability. It works straight out of the box — on most modern vehicles registering the battery via OBD is recommended so the alternator automatically applies the optimal charging profile.
Three ways: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team for the D52; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 CET).
In most cars it fits in 15-30 minutes with a 10 mm wrench; if the battery is under the seat or in the boot the time can double. See the step-by-step guide on this page. Quick summary: 1) switch off the engine and remove the key; 2) locate the original battery (engine bay, boot or under seat); 3) disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+); 4) loosen the hold-down clamp and remove the old battery; 5) fit the new one in the same orientation — match the polarity shown on the product sheet; 6) connect the positive (+) first, then the negative (−). On cars with Start-Stop or BMS, register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.

Expected lifespan of the Varta D52 is 5 to 8 years in mild-climate car use with Start-Stop. In cold regions it drops slightly due to cold-start stress; in very hot regions it also drops because of electrolyte evaporation. To extend its life: avoid deep discharges (headlights on with engine off), have the alternator checked yearly, and keep the battery clean and properly secured.
Dimensions (length × width × height) are 242×175×190 mm — also written as 242x175x190 mm and correspond to the European L2 case size — following the European DIN standard. Always measure the space in your car before buying: even one extra millimetre can prevent the hold-down clamp from closing. The height shown includes the terminals.
It weighs 17,5 kg. Most of the weight is lead. If you plan to fit it yourself, use gloves and a carrying strap (AGM batteries are slightly heavier than conventional due to the absorbent glass-mat fibre).
Nominal capacity 60 Ah[?cca: and [cold-cranking amps 680 A]] at 12 V. Ah measure the total energy available (autonomy); CCA (also written A in cold or EN under the European standard) measure the instantaneous power to crank the starter motor. A battery with more CCA starts better in winter; one with more Ah keeps accessories on for longer.
Three options to confirm: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 CET). The D52 typically fits a wide range of European vehicles thanks to its standard DIN case format.
Directly interchangeable batteries (same dimensions, same polarity, same Ah and CCA) are the OEM equivalents from leading brands: Bosch, Tudor, Exide and, depending on the model, Banner or Yuasa. Exact equivalence depends on technology — an EFB cannot be replaced with a conventional battery in Start-Stop cars. See the "Equivalents" section to view recommended options at the same performance level.
This battery and its equivalents from Bosch, Tudor or Exide are technically comparable: same dimensions, same voltage and same capacity. The differences are warranty (Varta and Bosch: 2 years; Tudor and Exide: 2 years on the equivalent line), manufacturing plant (Varta and Bosch share origin in the Clarios Group; Tudor and Exide belong to Exide Technologies) and price. For private use any of these brands will give 4-6 years of life. Compare them in the "Equivalents" section.
