Why search for a battery by number plate or VIN?

The number plate and the chassis number (VIN) are the two most reliable ways to identify the exact battery your vehicle needs. They tell us the make, model, year, engine and whether your car has Start-Stop, AGM or EFB, avoiding the compatibility errors that happen when searching by make and model alone. Use the plate if it is Spanish, Portuguese or Italian; otherwise, or if you don’t have it to hand, use the VIN.

No plate? Search by chassis number (VIN)

The chassis number, or VIN, is the universal identifier of any vehicle: 17 letters and numbers, never I, O or Q, following the same international standard (ISO 3779) worldwide. It works for imported vehicles, foreign plates or when you don't have the plate to hand, and lets us identify the make, model and engine to show you only compatible batteries.

Where to find it: in box E of the registration certificate (V5C in the UK), on the vehicle's technical documents, at the base of the windscreen (driver's side) and on the driver's door pillar.

What battery does my car need?

The right battery for your vehicle depends on several factors: engine power, whether the car has Start-Stop, the technology (AGM, EFB or standard) and the size of the battery compartment. With the number plate or chassis number we can identify exactly which battery your car needs without you having to know these technical details.

If your vehicle has a Start-Stop system, you must use a battery specifically designed for it (AGM or EFB), as conventional batteries cannot withstand the additional start cycles.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The finder recognises Spanish plates since 2000 (format 0000BBB), Portuguese plates (AB-12-CD and 12-AB-34) and Italian plates (AB123CD). For vehicles from any other country, including the UK, imported vehicles or if you don’t have the plate to hand, enter the chassis number (VIN): it has 17 characters and follows the same standard worldwide. Either way we show you the batteries compatible with your vehicle.
Yes. Choose the "Chassis no. or VIN" tab and enter the 17 characters. The VIN follows the same standard worldwide, so it works for vehicles from any country, including imported cars and foreign plates. We identify the make, model and engine and show you the compatible batteries, just as with a number plate.
In box E of the registration certificate, on the vehicle's technical documents, on a plate visible at the base of the windscreen and on the driver's door pillar. It has 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O or Q.
Completely safe. We only use the plate or chassis number to look up the vehicle’s technical data and recommend the right battery. Neither identifies the owner, and we do not store or share any personal data linked to them.
If the plate gives no result, try the chassis number (VIN), shown in box E of the registration certificate. You can also use our make, model and engine finder, or contact us by phone or chat and we will help you choose the right battery.
The batteries shown are compatible according to the official technical data from the manufacturer. If in doubt, our technical team will advise you free of charge.
AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are essential for vehicles with active Start-Stop and regenerative braking energy recovery systems. EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) batteries are an intermediate solution for basic Start-Stop. Conventional batteries are not suitable for Start-Stop vehicles.
Common signs are: slow engine cranking, lights dimming when starting, the car won't start in cold weather, or the battery is over 4-5 years old. If you experience any of these symptoms, we recommend a load test.
A quality battery lasts between 4 and 7 years depending on use, climate conditions and vehicle type. Vehicles with many electrical accessories or Start-Stop systems may see reduced battery life if the wrong technology is used.
We determine the exact capacity in amp-hours (Ah) from the number plate or chassis number. In general, small cars need 45-60 Ah, mid-size cars 60-75 Ah and large or Start-Stop cars may need 80-110 Ah. Never fit a battery with fewer Ah than the original.
