Lucas Batteries

Lucas: the classic British automotive brand

Lucas Industries was founded in Birmingham in 1860 and was for decades the leading electrical supplier of the British car. Any Land Rover, Jaguar, MG, Mini, Triumph, Austin or Rover from the 50s to the 80s ran Lucas starters, dynamos, headlights and of course batteries. Their "King of the Road" tagline still resonates in classic British car culture.

Today the Lucas battery range is broad and modern, manufactured in Europe. It is especially recommended for British classics where the look of the battery in the engine bay matters, and as a strong mid-range option for car, motorcycle, truck and caravan.

Lucas range by line

Lucas for British classics

If you own a classic Mini, MG B/C, Triumph Spitfire, Austin Healey, Jaguar XJ or Land Rover Defender/Series, Lucas is the natural pick — by aesthetics and by historic compatibility. The Premium line carries formats that fit the original British classic battery trays (Type 071, 072, 075, 077, 078, 096) with sufficient CCA without oversizing.

Lucas vs other European brands

In raw performance Lucas sits in the upper mid-range, comparable to Tudor in standard SLI. Its strong points are the British classic positioning and the specific coverage of legacy formats (Type 075, 096, 100…) not always available elsewhere. For modern premium use (BMW 5/7 Series, Mercedes E/S-Class, Audi A6/A8), VARTA Silver Dynamic AGM or Tudor AGM Microhybrid remain stronger choices via direct OEM coverage.
