MK Battery is part of the North American DEKA East Penn group, one of the largest lead-battery manufacturers in the Americas. Its GEL Mobility range is the de facto standard for power wheelchairs and mobility scooters in Europe and the Americas: most makers (Permobil, Invacare, Sunrise Medical, Pride Mobility, Quickie, Ottobock, Meyra, Levo) homologate or directly recommend MK Battery as the OEM replacement.

GEL is the right chemistry for assisted mobility because it does not spill in any orientation (chair tipped during airline transport, ambulance, scooter on a slope), tolerates daily deep cycling without premature ageing and accepts slow charge / prolonged discharge — exactly the usage pattern of a user covering 10-25 km a day. A car AGM in this duty dies in 6-12 months; an MK GEL lasts 2-4 years in heavy use.

Why MK GEL rather than AGM

Both are sealed and maintenance-free, but mobility has critical differences: GEL handles more deep cycles (1,000+ at 50% DoD vs ~600 in AGM), works better at the higher temperatures inside a chair shell, doesn't suffer electrolyte stratification and tolerates extremely slow discharges (24-48 hours at low current). AGM is fine for small light scooters but ages faster under heavy clinical use.
