For motorhomes, caravans and campers that need power off-grid, the Ritar RA12-120A from the RA range provides 127 Ah of energy with AGM technology. Measuring 407 × 177 × 225 mm, it is the direct replacement for motorhomes and caravans fitted from the factory with a 127 Ah battery of this format.

  • AGM: faster recharging and better cycle resistance than a conventional battery.
  • Withstands daily discharges throughout the season.
  • Recharges from the alternator, a solar panel or a mains charger.
  • Direct replacement for the original leisure battery.

What the Ritar RA12-120A is for

The Ritar RA12-120A is designed for motorhomes, caravans and campers that need power off-grid: it powers fridge, lights, pump and chargers for several days off-grid. Its 127 Ah capacity sets the available autonomy. Check that it matches your current battery in dimensions, terminals and hold-down: this reference has a weight of 32 kg and M8 terminals.

Dimensions, polarity and mounting

It has external dimensions of 407 × 177 × 225 mm and weighs 32 kg. It uses M8 terminals, the system that anchors and connects it in the vehicle. For a direct replacement, the current battery tray must accept these dimensions and the same terminal layout; otherwise adapters will be needed or the hold-down will change.

The Ritar RA12-120A: RA range and AGM technology

The RA12-120A is part of the Ritar RA range. Choosing the right reference within the series comes down to capacity, dimensions and terminals: technology and quality are common to the whole family.

AGM means the acid is held in a glass mat instead of floating free. That is why the battery can be installed in the cabin without gases, survives more cycles and recovers its charge quickly.

Why choose Ritar batteries

With more than twenty years making sealed lead batteries, Ritar offers general-purpose, long-life, high-rate and front-terminal ranges for every stationary application. At baterias.com we work directly with the manufacturer or its official distributor: real stock, brand-new product and official warranty.

Manufacturer's warranty

The Ritar RA12-120A comes with the manufacturer's official warranty against manufacturing defects. Avoid repeated full discharges: they shorten its life and are not covered.

Care and maintenance

Charge with a charger that has an AGM mode: it limits the voltage and protects the glass-fibre separators. Avoid routinely discharging the leisure battery below 50% and recharge it fully after every trip.

When you get it and how to return it

Same-day dispatch from our warehouse for in-stock orders placed before 6:00 pm: 24-48 working hours in mainland Spain and Portugal, 3 to 5 days in the islands and the rest of Europe. Returns are accepted for 14 days if the battery has not been used (free collection on the Iberian mainland). You will receive tracking by email.

How to change the battery

Guide to replace the leisure battery of your motorhome or caravan. Estimated time 15-25 minutes. Important: isolate the 12V auxiliary system before handling.

⏱ 15-25 min🛠 Tools: 10 mm or 13 mm wrench · Protective gloves
  1. Step 1. Switch off 12V equipment and unplug shore power

Turn off fridge, lights, water pump, Truma Mover and other auxiliary loads. Disconnect the 230V shore power and solar panels if any.

  2. Step 2. Locate the leisure battery compartment

On motorhomes usually under the driver/passenger seat, in an outside locker or in the garage area. Verify this is NOT the engine starter battery — that one is up front with the engine.

  3. Step 3. Disconnect the negative (−) terminal

Use the 10 mm wrench to loosen the negative cable nut (black, marked −) and remove the cable from the post. Move it aside so it cannot touch any bodywork.

  4. Step 4. Disconnect the positive (+) terminal

Repeat with the positive cable (red, marked +). Important: never let a terminal touch metal of the car while the other is still connected.

  5. Step 5. Remove the old battery

Loosen the bottom hold-down clamp with the same wrench. Lift the battery carefully (it can weigh 15-25 kg). Clean the tray with a brush and baking soda if there is corrosion.

  6. Step 6. Install the new battery

Place the battery in the same orientation as the old one (positive terminal on the same side). Tighten the hold-down clamp firmly.

  7. Step 7. Connect the cables

Connect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (−). Tighten the nuts with the wrench until each terminal does not move. Apply anti-spark grease if you have any.

  8. Step 8. Verify the charger and auxiliary services

After connecting, check the combi charger (CBE/Schaudt/Nordelettronica) recognises the new battery: voltage should stabilise at 13.2-13.8 V with 230V connected. Test a couple of services (lights + pump) before heading out.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ritar RA12-120A an AGM battery and what are the benefits of AGM?

Yes. The RA12-120A from Ritar uses AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology: a sealed lead-acid battery where the electrolyte is absorbed in a glass-fibre mat. It withstands more charge/discharge cycles than a conventional one, handles heat better and is the required technology for caravans with advanced Start-Stop and regenerative braking. Expected lifespan: 5-8 years under normal conditions.

How do I change this battery step by step?

In most caravans it fits in 15-30 minutes with a 10 mm wrench; if the battery is under the seat or in the boot the time can double. See the step-by-step guide on this page. Quick summary: 1) switch off the engine and remove the key; 2) locate the original battery (engine bay, boot or under seat); 3) disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+); 4) loosen the hold-down clamp and remove the old battery; 5) fit the new one in the same orientation — match the polarity shown on the product sheet; 6) connect the positive (+) first, then the negative (−). On caravans with Start-Stop or BMS, register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.

What is the service life of the RA12-120A model?

Expected lifespan of the Ritar RA12-120A is 5 to 8 years in mild-climate caravan use with Start-Stop. In cold regions it drops slightly due to cold-start stress; in very hot regions it also drops because of electrolyte evaporation. To extend its life: avoid deep discharges (headlights on with engine off), have the alternator checked yearly, and keep the battery clean and properly secured.

What are the dimensions of the Ritar RA12-120A battery?

Dimensions (length × width × height) are 407×177×225 mm — also written as 407x177x225 mm — following the European DIN standard. Always measure the space in your caravan before buying: even one extra millimetre can prevent the hold-down clamp from closing. The height shown includes the terminals.

Will the Ritar RA12-120A battery fit my caravan?

Three options to confirm: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 10:00–13:30 and 16:40–18:00 (Spanish time, CET)). The RA12-120A typically fits a wide range of European vehicles thanks to its standard DIN case format.

What are the equivalents of the RA12-120A model?

Directly interchangeable batteries (same dimensions, same polarity, same Ah and CCA) are the OEM equivalents from leading brands: Bosch, Tudor, Exide and, depending on the model, Banner or Yuasa. Exact equivalence depends on technology — an EFB cannot be replaced with a conventional battery in Start-Stop caravans. See the "Equivalents" section to view recommended options at the same performance level.
