The Varta LFD90 battery is the 12 V, 90 Ah model delivering 800 A of cold cranking power (EN) from Varta's Professional Dual Purpose range, designed for motorhomes, boats and auxiliary power equipment. Its 353 × 175 × 190 mm dimensions and positive terminal on the right make it the exact replacement for the 90 Ah battery fitted as standard in many vehicles.

The positive terminal on the right determines which side the cables run to: it is the detail that causes the most buying mistakes, so it is worth checking before ordering. It uses a B13 hold-down and a type 1 terminal, the system that anchors it to the vehicle's battery tray. For the swap to be direct, the space your current battery occupies must respect those three dimensions and the same terminal layout; otherwise adapters will be needed or the hold-down will have to change.

Care and maintenance
In leisure applications, avoiding discharges below 50% of capacity multiplies the number of cycles the battery will deliver. A suitable charger and, where possible, a solar regulator keep it healthy through the seasons when it sees less use. To extend its life, recharge it as soon as possible after each discharge and never leave it flat over the winter. A trickle charger is the best investment for getting many cycles out of it.
