AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries hold the electrolyte in glass-fibre mats: spill-proof, twice the cycle life of a conventional battery and very high cranking power. They are mandatory in cars with advanced start-stop and regenerative braking, and ideal for motorcycles, marine and any application with vibration and frequent discharges.

What does AGM mean and how is it different from a standard battery?

AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat: the acid is absorbed in glass-fibre mats instead of free liquid. That makes it spill-proof, vibration-resistant and gives roughly twice the cyclic endurance of a conventional lead-acid battery.

Does my start-stop car strictly need an AGM battery?

If the car came with AGM from the factory, replace with AGM: start-stop and regenerative braking require it. If it came with EFB you can keep EFB or upgrade to AGM, never downgrade to conventional.

Can I replace an AGM battery myself?

Yes, but many modern vehicles need the new battery registered in the ECU (BMS) so charging is managed correctly.

How long does an AGM battery last?

4 to 7 years depending on use and climate. Very short trips and extreme heat shorten it; a maintenance charger helps if the vehicle sits unused for weeks.
