Which battery does a home UPS take?

Most home and office UPS units use one or two 12V 7-9 Ah AGM batteries, such as the Ritar RT1270. Before buying, check the capacity, dimensions and terminal type of the original battery.

Are Ritar RT batteries suitable for an alarm panel?

Yes. They are stand-by batteries designed to sit on float and power the panel during a mains outage. The 1.3 to 17 Ah formats cover most alarm panels and sounders.

How long does a UPS battery last and when should I replace it?

It depends on temperature and the number of discharges: sustained heat is what ages it most. When the runtime drops noticeably or the UPS reports a battery fault, it is time to replace it.

What is the difference between the RT and RL series?

Both are sealed stand-by VRLA AGM batteries; the RT is the standard range while the RL is the Long Life version, with a 10-12 year float design life for installations where replacement is costly.
