Battery FAQs

Amp-hours (Ah) measure the electrical capacity of the battery: how much charge it can deliver before discharging. A 60 Ah battery can deliver 3 A for 20 hours (the c20 convention we use by default). More Ah = more autonomy, especially if your car has many parked loads (alarm, GPS, dashcam).
AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) is the best for modern cars with advanced Start-Stop: double the charge cycles, better cold performance, ideal for vehicles with high electrical loads. EFB is the mid-range option for basic Start-Stop, cheaper than AGM. Conventional lead-acid works for vehicles without Start-Stop and modest electrical loads. GEL is for cyclic use (camper, marine, mobility). If your car came with AGM from the factory, do NOT replace it with conventional.
The CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) measures starting current at -18 °C. Rule of thumb: small petrol (≤1.6 L) → 400-540 A; mid petrol → 540-680 A; mid diesel → 680-800 A; large diesel/SUV → 800-1000 A; large 4x4 or extreme cold → ≥1000 A. Never fit less CCA than your original battery, you can always fit more.
Check the top or side of your battery: it should show "60Ah", "680A", "12V" and usually the dimensions. If not, measure with a ruler in mm: length × width × height (excluding terminals). The most important: dimensions must fit in the tray. For the same size, a battery with higher Ah/CCA always works.
Start-Stop shuts down the engine every time you stop (traffic lights, jams) and restarts it when you accelerate. This subjects the battery to hundreds of cycles per day — a conventional battery fails within months. You need AGM or EFB mandatorily. If unsure whether your car has it, look for the "A" (auto-stop) button on the dashboard or read the battery label.
They are not the same. Premium brands (VARTA, Exide, Tudor, Optima) offer better lead quality, better cold performance and longer durability than cheap ones. In cold climates or cars with high loads, a good battery is the difference between getting stranded in winter or not. For very light use, generic brands can work.
