VARTA Professional Dual Purpose Batteries

Has the name changed? Varta's old and new naming

In 2025 Varta restructured its catalogue and moved from naming batteries by colour or series to naming them by technology. In this case, the good news is simple: the range keeps the name Professional Dual Purpose. That is, if you were looking for your battery by the old name "Varta Professional Dual Purpose", you are in exactly the same place and looking at the same product. Neither the technology nor the application changes: what changes is the logic of how Varta organises its portfolio, which now groups batteries by what they do. If you had a Professional Dual Purpose fitted and want the equivalent replacement, this is your category. You only need to check the capacity (Ah) and the dimensions to choose the right model.

What "dual purpose" means (starting + service)

A normal car battery is optimised for starting: delivering a lot of current for just a few seconds. A service or deep-cycle battery is optimised for the opposite: providing a little current over many hours and withstanding charge and discharge cycles. Dual-purpose technology combines both capabilities in a single battery: it offers enough starting current to get the engine going and withstands discharge cycles to power your equipment when the engine is off. That is why it is ideal when you do not want to, or cannot, fit two separate batteries.

Advantages of choosing a Varta Professional Dual Purpose

• Two functions in one: it starts the engine and powers the interior consumption without the need for a second battery.
• Cycle resistance: it withstands the repeated discharges typical of leisure and boating use better than a conventional starter battery.
• Brand reliability: Varta is a benchmark manufacturer in original equipment, with proven quality and replacement availability.
• Versatility: valid for motorhomes, campervans, caravans, boats and other mixed applications.
• Reduced maintenance: designed for demanding use with minimal intervention.

How to choose the right Professional Dual Purpose battery

To get the replacement right, check three details:

• Capacity (Ah): indicates how much energy it stores. The more interior consumption (more equipment, more autonomy without the engine), the more Ah you will need.
• Dimensions and case: check the length, width and height so that it fits in the space in your installation.
• Terminals and polarity: make sure the position of the terminals (positive/negative) matches the connection of your vehicle or vessel.

If your application is a vehicle with a number plate, you can use the number plate finder on the website: you enter the number plate and we show you the batteries compatible with your vehicle, avoiding errors of size or capacity. When in doubt, always compare with the specifications of the battery you have fitted.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Varta Professional Dual Purpose work for starting the engine?

Yes. Dual-purpose technology is designed to deliver enough starting current and, in addition, to power the service equipment when the engine is off. This is its main function in motorhomes and boats.

Is it the same as the previous "Professional Dual Purpose"?

Yes. Although Varta reorganised its catalogue in 2025 to name batteries by technology, this range keeps the name Professional Dual Purpose. It is the same product and the same application; just choose the model with the capacity and dimensions equivalent to your current battery.

Which vehicles or vessels is it suitable for?

For leisure and boating applications that need to start and power equipment: motorhomes, campervans, caravans, boats, sailing yachts and mixed uses where a single battery handles both starting and interior consumption.

How do I know which model to buy?

Check the capacity in Ah, the case dimensions and the terminal position. If your application has a number plate, use the website's number plate finder to see the compatible options.
