Leisure battery Ritar RA12-134 RA 142Ah 12V

The Ritar RA12-134 with AGM technology stores 142 Ah at 12 V: autonomy for motorhomes, caravans and campers that need power off-grid. It measures 340 × 173 × 285 mm, the format sought by anyone replacing a 142 Ah battery in motorhomes and caravans.

  • Power for fridge, lighting, water pump and USB off-grid.
  • AGM technology: absorbed electrolyte, no spills, can be mounted at an angle.
  • Low self-discharge during months of storage.
  • Sealed and gas-free: suitable for installation inside the living area.

What the Ritar RA12-134 is for

With 142 Ah, the Ritar RA12-134 is the habitation battery for motorhomes, caravans and campers that need power off-grid. It recharges from the alternator, a solar panel or a mains charger. Check that it matches your current battery in dimensions, terminals and hold-down: this reference has a weight of 39 kg and M8 terminals.

Dimensions, polarity and mounting

In terms of format, the Ritar RA12-134 measures 340 × 173 × 285 mm (length × width × height) and weighs 39 kg. It uses M8 terminals, the system that anchors and connects it in the vehicle. Checking the three dimensions and the terminal position before buying avoids the most common mistake when replacing a battery.

Ritar: the maker behind the RA12-134

With more than twenty years making sealed lead batteries, Ritar offers general-purpose, long-life, high-rate and front-terminal ranges for every stationary application. All the Ritar batteries in our catalogue are genuine product, recently manufactured and covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

The Ritar RA12-134: RA range and AGM technology

The RA is the Ritar range the RA12-134 belongs to: it shares the same construction and quality criteria with the rest of the series, and varies in capacity and format to suit each vehicle.

AGM means the acid is held in a glass mat instead of floating free. That is why the battery can be installed in the cabin without gases, survives more cycles and recovers its charge quickly.

Usage and maintenance tips

Avoid routinely discharging the leisure battery below 50% and recharge it fully after every trip. During months of storage, keep it charged with a mains charger or a small solar panel; a battery left discharged for weeks loses capacity permanently.

Manufacturer's warranty

The Ritar RA12-134 comes with the manufacturer's official warranty against manufacturing defects. Avoid repeated full discharges: they shorten its life and are not covered.

When you get it and how to return it

Orders placed before 6:00 pm with the battery in stock ship the same day. Delivery in mainland Spain and Portugal takes 24-48 working hours; for the Balearic and Canary Islands and the rest of the European Union allow 3 to 5 working days. You have 14 days to return an unused battery; in mainland Spain and Portugal collection is free. We email you the tracking number as soon as the parcel ships.

How to change the battery

Guide to replace the leisure battery of your motorhome or caravan. Estimated time 15-25 minutes. Important: isolate the 12V auxiliary system before handling.

⏱ 15-25 min🛠 Tools: 10 mm or 13 mm wrench · Protective gloves
  1. Step 1. Switch off 12V equipment and unplug shore power

Turn off fridge, lights, water pump, Truma Mover and other auxiliary loads. Disconnect the 230V shore power and solar panels if any.

  2. Step 2. Locate the leisure battery compartment

On motorhomes usually under the driver/passenger seat, in an outside locker or in the garage area. Verify this is NOT the engine starter battery — that one is up front with the engine.

  3. Step 3. Disconnect the negative (−) terminal

Use the 10 mm wrench to loosen the negative cable nut (black, marked −) and remove the cable from the post. Move it aside so it cannot touch any bodywork.

  4. Step 4. Disconnect the positive (+) terminal

Repeat with the positive cable (red, marked +). Important: never let a terminal touch metal of the car while the other is still connected.

  5. Step 5. Remove the old battery

Loosen the bottom hold-down clamp with the same wrench. Lift the battery carefully (it can weigh 15-25 kg). Clean the tray with a brush and baking soda if there is corrosion.

  6. Step 6. Install the new battery

Place the battery in the same orientation as the old one (positive terminal on the same side). Tighten the hold-down clamp firmly.

  7. Step 7. Connect the cables

Connect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (−). Tighten the nuts with the wrench until each terminal does not move. Apply anti-spark grease if you have any.

  8. Step 8. Verify the charger and auxiliary services

After connecting, check the combi charger (CBE/Schaudt/Nordelettronica) recognises the new battery: voltage should stabilise at 13.2-13.8 V with 230V connected. Test a couple of services (lights + pump) before heading out.

Frequently asked questions

Is the RA12-134 model AGM? What does this technology offer?

Yes. The RA12-134 from Ritar uses AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology: a sealed lead-acid battery where the electrolyte is absorbed in a glass-fibre mat. It withstands more charge/discharge cycles than a conventional one, handles heat better and is the required technology for caravans with advanced Start-Stop and regenerative braking. Expected lifespan: 5-8 years under normal conditions.

How do I fit the RA12-134 model in my caravan?

In most caravans it fits in 15-30 minutes with a 10 mm wrench; if the battery is under the seat or in the boot the time can double. See the step-by-step guide on this page. Quick summary: 1) switch off the engine and remove the key; 2) locate the original battery (engine bay, boot or under seat); 3) disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+); 4) loosen the hold-down clamp and remove the old battery; 5) fit the new one in the same orientation — match the polarity shown on the product sheet; 6) connect the positive (+) first, then the negative (−). On caravans with Start-Stop or BMS, register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.

How long does the Ritar RA12-134 battery last?

Expected lifespan of the Ritar RA12-134 is 5 to 8 years in mild-climate caravan use with Start-Stop. In cold regions it drops slightly due to cold-start stress; in very hot regions it also drops because of electrolyte evaporation. To extend its life: avoid deep discharges (headlights on with engine off), have the alternator checked yearly, and keep the battery clean and properly secured.

What are the measurements of the RA12-134 model?

Dimensions (length × width × height) are 340×173×285 mm — also written as 340x173x285 mm — following the European DIN standard. Always measure the space in your caravan before buying: even one extra millimetre can prevent the hold-down clamp from closing. The height shown includes the terminals.

Does this battery fit my caravan?

Three options to confirm: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 10:00–13:30 and 16:40–18:00 (Spanish time, CET)). The RA12-134 typically fits a wide range of European vehicles thanks to its standard DIN case format.

What are the equivalents of the RA12-134 model?

Directly interchangeable batteries (same dimensions, same polarity, same Ah and CCA) are the OEM equivalents from leading brands: Bosch, Tudor, Exide and, depending on the model, Banner or Yuasa. Exact equivalence depends on technology — an EFB cannot be replaced with a conventional battery in Start-Stop caravans. See the "Equivalents" section to view recommended options at the same performance level.
