DEKA AGM batteries

Deka AGM: sealed deep cycle power built by East Penn

The Deka AGM series uses absorbed glass mat separators that lock the electrolyte in place: the battery is fully sealed, spill-proof even when tilted and never needs topping up with water. East Penn Manufacturing, one of North America's largest battery makers, builds it for demanding mobility, telecom and backup energy applications.

Deka AGM models and applications

• Deka 8AU1 (32 Ah): AGM battery for compact mobility scooters and light powerchairs.
• Deka 9A31 (92 Ah): deep cycle battery for motorhomes (RV) and golf carts.
• Deka 8A8D (220 Ah): large format for industrial energy, telecom and backup systems.

AGM or GEL for mobility? How to choose

AGM delivers more current at a lower price, ideal for moderate or seasonal use; for deep daily discharges a GEL battery usually lasts more cycles. Always match the capacity (Ah) and dimensions of your original battery — 24 V wheelchairs and scooters run two 12 V units in series — and compare models in our battery comparator.

Frequently asked questions about Deka AGM batteries

Can I use a Deka AGM battery in a power wheelchair?

Yes. Being sealed and spill-proof it is suitable for powerchairs and mobility scooters; fit the model with the same capacity and dimensions as the original battery, normally in pairs of 12 V.

Do Deka AGM batteries need maintenance?

No. They are sealed VRLA batteries: no water top-ups or level checks. Simply recharge after each use with an AGM-profile charger.

What is the difference between Deka AGM and Deka GEL?

In AGM the electrolyte is absorbed in glass fibre; in GEL it is gelified. AGM gives more current at a better price; GEL withstands daily deep discharge and heat better.

Which Deka AGM should I pick for telecom or backup power?

For stationary installations the reference is the 220 Ah Deka 8A8D; for smaller loads the 92 Ah Deka 9A31 is the usual alternative in the series.
