Case / Box (L0-L6)
Standard EN physical dimensions. L0=175mm, L1=207mm, L2=242mm, L3=278mm, L4=315mm, L5=353mm, L6=394mm (length).
The L0-L6 designation under EN 50342-2 standardises the case length of car batteries for European cars: L0=175 mm, L1=207 mm, L2=242 mm, L3=278 mm, L4=315 mm, L5=353 mm, L6=394 mm. Width and height are more standardised (175 × 175-190 mm is typical). The space in the car only accepts ONE size — the holder will not take a bigger battery, and a smaller one will sit loose (dangerous) or be unreachable by the cables. Alternative nomenclatures: DIN (German codes like 56519 = 65 Ah / 540 CCA), JIS (Japanese NS40-NS60-NS70 for Asian cars) and BCI (American Group 24/27/31/35/49).
Most manufacturers publish cross-references between standards. To be sure of the correct size: measure length × width × height of the old battery and check the original part-number (usually printed on the case).
