What is the difference between a GEL and an AGM wheelchair battery?

GEL uses a gelified electrolyte and endures more deep discharge cycles, ideal for intensive daily use; AGM is cheaper and delivers more current, suited to moderate use.

How long does a Deka GEL battery last in mobility use?

It depends on discharge depth and charging: with a full recharge after each use and a GEL-profile charger, a gel battery usually outlasts an equivalent AGM in daily use.

Do gel batteries need a special charger?

Yes. They require a GEL-profile charger with controlled charge voltage; an unsuitable charger dries out the gel and shortens battery life.

Which Deka GEL fits my wheelchair or scooter?

As a guide: 8GU1 (32 Ah) for a small scooter, 8G27 (89 Ah) for a standard chair, 8G31 (97.6 Ah) for a bariatric chair and 8G8D (225 Ah) for stationary energy.

DEKA GEL batteries

Deka GEL batteries are East Penn's sealed, maintenance-free deep cycle gel batteries, developed for power wheelchairs, mobility scooters and stationary energy. The range covers 32 to 225 Ah.

The gelified electrolyte withstands deep daily discharges, making them the preferred GEL mobility battery for intensive users: more life cycles than an equivalent AGM, spill-proof, and equally suited as a deep cycle battery for energy systems.
