Yes. The TL954 is an EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery): flooded lead-acid reinforced with plate additives. It goes into cars with basic Start-Stop (no energy recovery when braking): more cycles than a conventional battery, fewer than an AGM, and cheaper than an equivalent AGM.

EFB batteries cover basic Start-Stop (no regenerative braking). The Tudor TL954 is EFB, so yes, it is designed for Start-Stop cars. If the car recovers energy when braking, AGM is recommended for its higher cycle count; for basic Start-Stop, EFB. The manufacturer's specification comes first. It needs nothing to work, though on most modern cars registering it via OBD is advisable so the alternator adjusts its charging profile.

On cars with Start-Stop or BMS, registering the battery via OBD makes the alternator charge with the correct profile. Mind the IBS sensor on the negative terminal too: loosen the cable nut, not the sensor. And the replacement must be the same technology (AGM or EFB) or higher: a conventional battery fails within months. On most cars it is a 15-30 minute job needing only a 10 mm spanner (up to twice as long when the battery is under a seat or in the boot). Steps: 1) switch off and remove the key; 2) find the battery (bonnet, boot or under a seat); 3) undo the negative (−), then the positive (+); 4) remove the clamp and the old battery; 5) fit the new one facing the same way (positive on the right) to match the polarity; 6) connect the positive (+) and finally the negative (−). As a rough estimate, the Tudor TL954 typically lasts 4 to 6 years in basic Start-Stop car use; it is a guide figure, not a guaranteed period. Many factors play a part: how it is used (lots of short trips, for example), temperature (cold makes every start harder and intense heat evaporates the electrolyte), the condition of the alternator and charging system, power drawn with the engine off and maintenance, as well as the type of car and whether it has Start-Stop.

It measures 306×173×222 mm in length × width × height, with the terminals included in the height. Measure the battery tray before ordering: a one-millimetre difference is enough for the hold-down clamp not to close.

Renault Energy TCe, Peugeot/Citroën PureTech, Fiat MultiAir, Hyundai/Kia ISG and Ford EcoBoost are examples of basic Start-Stop (no regenerative braking) fitted with it from new. An EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) is flooded lead-acid, but reinforced: carbon and polyethylene additives in the plates and thicker grids. It handles more cycles than a conventional battery and copes better with deep discharges, though less well than an AGM. EFB is the right technology if your car came with one from the factory (moving up to AGM is optional and the gain marginal). If it came with an AGM, fit an AGM instead.

The alternator detects the new battery and adapts the charge automatically, so on most cars it is not compulsory. Even so, it is advisable to register it via OBD so charging is optimum from the first minute and the battery lasts longer, particularly on BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo or Land Rover, with more sophisticated BMS. Any workshop with an OBD scanner does it in a few minutes; DIY, with VCDS or Carista (VAG group), Bimmercode (BMW) or iCarsoft. Even if you do not register the Tudor TL954, the car will start correctly; the profile adjusts within a few days.
