Varta LED70 12V 70Ah 760A is a marine battery, vibration- and deep-discharge resistant, suitable both for outboard engine starting and for onboard auxiliary services (navigation lights, GPS, sonar, fridge). Sealed and maintenance-free.

The Varta LED70 battery is the 12 V, 70 Ah model delivering 760 A of cold cranking power (EN), from Varta's Professional Dual Purpose EFB range, designed for motorhomes, boats and auxiliary power equipment. Measuring 277 × 175 × 190 mm and with the positive terminal on the right, it is the direct replacement for vehicles fitted from the factory with a 70 Ah battery in this format.
The Varta LED70 covers the needs of motorhomes, boats and auxiliary power equipment with 70 Ah of capacity and a construction built for that use. Check that it matches your current battery in dimensions, terminals and hold-down: this reference weighs 19.45 kg and has a B13 hold-down.
The Varta LED70 is made in the 277 × 175 × 190 mm format and weighs 19.45 kg. The positive terminal on the right determines which side the cables sit on: it is the detail that causes the most buying mistakes, so it is worth checking before you order. It uses a B13 hold-down, the system that anchors it to the vehicle's battery tray. Checking the three dimensions and the terminal positions before buying avoids the most common mistake when replacing a battery.
The Professional Dual Purpose EFB range applies EFB technology to dual starting and leisure use, with more resistance to cycling than a conventional battery at a moderate cost.
It sits between the standard dual-purpose range and AGM: a solid step up for leisure and boating without paying AGM prices.
The chemistry is built to be drained and recharged many times over — the typical pattern in leisure and boating use — where an ordinary car battery would sulphate within weeks. It gives you running time for the on-board equipment and the cranking power to turn the engine over when needed.
Varta is a byword for reliability: original equipment in numerous European vehicles and one of the most proven brands on the market. Replacing your battery with a Varta restores OEM quality — the same performance as the factory-fitted unit — with the manufacturer's backing.
Varta combines more than a century of experience with the industrial production of Clarios: it is the battery many manufacturers fit as standard and one of the most recommended by workshops. Like every lead-acid battery, it is 100% recyclable.
More than 100 manufacturing parameters are checked on every Varta battery before it leaves the plant, a level of rigour that explains why so many workshops and manufacturers trust the brand as their first-choice replacement.
The Varta LED70 battery comes with a 1-year official warranty from the manufacturer.
In leisure applications, avoiding discharges below 50% of capacity multiplies the number of cycles the battery will deliver. A suitable charger and, where possible, a solar regulator keep it healthy through the quieter seasons. To extend its life, recharge it as soon as possible after each discharge and never leave it flat over the winter. A trickle charger is the best investment for getting many cycles out of it.

Guide to replace a marine battery (cranking or house) in 20-30 minutes. Moisture and vibration in marine environments require reinforced hold-downs and sealed copper terminals.
Park on a flat surface, switch off the engine and remove the key. Make sure all lights and electrical accessories are off. Wait 1-2 minutes before starting.
Usually under the passenger bench, engine room or a dedicated ventilated compartment. Verify the compartment is dry and well ventilated before opening.
Use the 10 mm wrench to loosen the negative cable nut (black, marked −) and remove the cable from the post. Move it aside so it cannot touch any bodywork.
Repeat with the positive cable (red, marked +). Important: never let a terminal touch metal of the car while the other is still connected.
Marine batteries are heavy (15-50 kg). If it has rope handles, use them; otherwise have a carry strap ready. Secure the new one with metal hold-downs (not plastic) to resist sea-state vibration.
Place the battery in the same orientation as the old one (positive terminal on the same side). Tighten the hold-down clamp firmly.
Connect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (−). Tighten the nuts with the wrench until each terminal does not move. Apply anti-spark grease if you have any.
Apply dielectric grease on terminals to prevent salt-air corrosion. Check the engine charging circuit delivers 13.8-14.4 V at 2,000 rpm.
Yes. The LED70 is an EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery): flooded lead-acid reinforced with plate additives. Withstands more cycles than a conventional but fewer than an AGM. Fitted to boats with basic Start-Stop (no regenerative braking). More affordable than an equivalent AGM, lifespan 4-6 years.
Three ways: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team for the LED70; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 CET).
In most boats it fits in 15-30 minutes with a 10 mm wrench; if the battery is under the seat or in the boot the time can double. See the step-by-step guide on this page. Quick summary: 1) switch off the engine and remove the key; 2) locate the original battery (engine bay, boot or under seat); 3) disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+); 4) loosen the hold-down clamp and remove the old battery; 5) fit the new one in the same orientation — match the polarity shown on the product sheet; 6) connect the positive (+) first, then the negative (−). On boats with Start-Stop or BMS, register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.
The official manufacturer warranty is 1 year and covers manufacturing defects. Coverage includes cell breakdowns, internal short-circuits and abnormal capacity decreases. Wear from misuse (prolonged overcharging, wrong charger or faulty alternator) is not covered. On confirmed defect after technical inspection, we replace the LED70 model at no cost.

Expected lifespan of the Varta LED70 is 4 to 6 years in basic Start-Stop boat use. In cold regions it drops slightly due to cold-start stress; in very hot regions it also drops because of electrolyte evaporation. To extend its life: avoid deep discharges (headlights on with engine off), have the alternator checked yearly, and keep the battery clean and properly secured.
Dimensions (length × width × height) are 278×175×190 mm — also written as 278x175x190 mm and correspond to the European L3 case size — following the European DIN standard. Always measure the space in your boat before buying: even one extra millimetre can prevent the hold-down clamp from closing. The height shown includes the terminals.
It weighs 18,8 kg. Most of the weight is lead. If you plan to fit it yourself, use gloves and a carrying strap (AGM batteries are slightly heavier than conventional due to the absorbent glass-mat fibre).
Nominal capacity 70 Ah[?cca: and [cold-cranking amps 760 A]] at 12 V. Ah measure the total energy available (autonomy); CCA (also written A in cold or EN under the European standard) measure the instantaneous power to crank the starter motor. A battery with more CCA starts better in winter; one with more Ah keeps accessories on for longer.
Three options to confirm: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 CET). The LED70 typically fits a wide range of European vehicles thanks to its standard DIN case format.
Directly interchangeable batteries (same dimensions, same polarity, same Ah and CCA) are the OEM equivalents from leading brands: Bosch, Tudor, Exide and, depending on the model, Banner or Yuasa. Exact equivalence depends on technology — an EFB cannot be replaced with a conventional battery in Start-Stop boats. See the "Equivalents" section to view recommended options at the same performance level.
This battery and its equivalents from Bosch, Tudor or Exide are technically comparable: same dimensions, same voltage and same capacity. The differences are warranty (Varta and Bosch: 2 years; Tudor and Exide: 2 years on the equivalent line), manufacturing plant (Varta and Bosch share origin in the Clarios Group; Tudor and Exide belong to Exide Technologies) and price. For private use any of these brands will give 4-6 years of life. Compare them in the "Equivalents" section.
