Batteries for telecommunications systems

Telecom batteries are the hidden safety net of connectivity: 4G/5G base stations for operators like Vodafone, EE, O2, Three, BT; rural repeaters; PBX equipment; IP exchanges; SCADA telecontrol; fibre nodes; rack-shelter DC plants. The demand is brutal: 10-20 years on float at 23-28 °C, backup discharges on every grid drop, infrequent maintenance access.

Three technologies cover the field: OPzV tubular gel (18-22 years, sealed), long-life stationary AGM (10-12 years, often in front-terminal format for compact racks), and LiFePO4 lithium in 48 V racks (rising standard).
