Exide EL800 12V 80Ah 800A is a dedicated Start-Stop battery with AGM/EFB technology. Withstands intensive cycling at traffic-light stops (hundreds of cranks per day), recharges quickly while driving and keeps comfort loads alive during long idle periods.
Why this Start-Stop battery?
- Designed for Start-Stopbuilt for the intensive cycling of modern cars
- 2 to 3 times longer lifevs fitting a cheap conventional battery
- Fast recoveryrecharges in minutes once the engine is running
Where it fits: the Exide EL800 is one of our car batteries, belongs to our Exide batteries and by capacity it sits among our 80Ah batteries.
The Exide EL800 in practice
Which cars do our customers fit it to?
Mostly to Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Peugeot 407 and Toyota Hilux Platform (3 orders with the vehicle identified). That those models use it does not guarantee it fits yours: check the plate, as tray and polarity vary by version.
When not to choose it
It replaces an EFB or a conventional battery; if the original label says AGM, this one falls short and will not last.

Start-Stop battery Exide EL800 80Ah 800A 12V
Designed for cars with Start-Stop, regenerative braking and heavy electrical loads, the Exide EL800 combines 80 Ah and 800 A of cold cranking current (EN) with EFB construction able to withstand hundreds of starts a day. Its 315 × 175 × 190 mm and the positive terminal on the right make it the exact replacement for the 80 Ah battery fitted as standard to many Start-Stop cars.
In short: the Exide EL800 (80 Ah, 800 A, 315 × 175 × 190 mm, positive terminal on the right). It is an EFB battery for cars with Start-Stop; if your car came with an AGM battery from the factory, always replace it with another AGM. Verified equivalent alternatives: Tudor TL800 and Varta N80.
- Fast recharge on the move thanks to low internal resistance.
- EFB: the evolution of the conventional battery for basic Start-Stop cars.
- Direct replacement for the original Start-Stop battery.
- Keeps comfort loads running with the engine off at the lights.
What the Exide EL800 is for
In Start-Stop cars the battery works far harder than in a conventional car; the Exide EL800 is built for that intensive cycling and to recharge quickly on the move. Check that it matches your current battery in dimensions, terminals and hold-down: this reference has a weight of 22.70 kg, 1 terminals and B13 hold-down.
Dimensions, polarity and mounting
It has external dimensions of 315 × 175 × 190 mm and weighs 22.70 kg. The positive terminal on the right decides which side the cables end up on: it is the detail that causes most buying mistakes, so check it before ordering. It uses a B13 hold-down and 1 terminals, the system that anchors and connects it in the vehicle. Checking the three dimensions and the terminal position before buying avoids the most common mistake when replacing a battery.
Technology inside the Exide EL800
Within the Exide catalogue, the EL800 is the 80 Ah model designed for this application.
An EFB is a reinforced flooded battery: its plates retain the active material better and tolerate the cycling imposed by a simple Start-Stop system, at a lower cost than an AGM.
Exide: the maker behind the EL800
Exide is one of the world's largest battery manufacturers and an original-equipment supplier to many car makers. Its European plants produce starter, industrial and leisure batteries under original-equipment quality controls. We guarantee that every Exide arrives new, charged and with the manufacturer's full warranty.
Warranty and coverage
The Exide EL800 comes with the manufacturer's official warranty. To keep it valid, always fit the same technology as the original battery (AGM or EFB) and register the replacement if your vehicle requires it.
How to make it last longer
If the vehicle only does very short trips, a periodic maintenance charge with an AGM/EFB-compatible charger greatly extends its life. In a Start-Stop car the battery is controlled by the ECU; after replacing it, the new battery may need to be registered so the system adjusts charging.
When you get it and how to return it
Orders placed before 6:00 pm with the battery in stock ship the same day. Delivery in mainland Spain and Portugal takes 24-48 working hours; for the Balearic Islands and the rest of the European Union allow 3 to 5 working days. You have 14 days to return an unused battery; in mainland Spain and Portugal collection is free. We email you the tracking number as soon as the parcel ships.

Fitting it yourself? Step-by-step guide to replacing the battery →
Frequently asked questions
Is the Exide EL800 an EFB battery? When is EFB used?
Yes. The EL800 is an EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery): flooded lead-acid reinforced with plate additives. Withstands more cycles than a conventional but fewer than an AGM. Fitted to cars with basic Start-Stop (no regenerative braking). More affordable than an equivalent AGM, lifespan 4-6 years.
Is the Exide EL800 battery suitable for Start-Stop?
Yes. As EFB technology it is designed for Start-Stop vehicles. EFB batteries cover basic Start-Stop (no regenerative braking). EFB is recommended for basic Start-Stop; AGM is recommended when regenerative braking is also present, thanks to its higher cycle capability. It works straight out of the box — on most modern vehicles registering the battery via OBD is recommended so the alternator automatically applies the optimal charging profile.
How do I replace a Start-Stop car battery with the EL800?
In most cars it fits in 15-30 minutes with a 10 mm wrench; if the battery is under the seat or in the boot the time can double. See the step-by-step guide on our blog. Quick summary: 1) switch off the engine and remove the key; 2) locate the original battery (engine bay, boot or under seat); 3) disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+); 4) loosen the hold-down clamp and remove the old battery; 5) fit the new one in the same orientation — with positive on the right match the polarity shown on the product sheet; 6) connect the positive (+) first, then the negative (−). On cars with Start-Stop or BMS, register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile. Also, the negative terminal usually carries a battery sensor (IBS): undo the cable at the terminal nut without removing the sensor. Always replace it with the same technology (AGM or EFB) or higher: a conventional battery wears out within months with Start-Stop.
How many years does this battery last?
Expected lifespan of the Exide EL800 is 4 to 6 years in basic Start-Stop car use. In cold regions it drops slightly due to cold-start stress; in very hot regions it also drops because of electrolyte evaporation. To extend its life: avoid deep discharges (headlights on with engine off), have the alternator checked yearly, and keep the battery clean and properly secured.
What size is this battery?
Dimensions (length × width × height) are 315×175×190 mm — also written as 315x175x190 mm and correspond to the European L4 case size — following the European DIN standard. Always measure the space in your car before buying: even one extra millimetre can prevent the hold-down clamp from closing. The height shown includes the terminals.
Which side is the positive terminal on this battery?
Polarity: positive on the right. To identify it, place the battery in front of you with the terminals facing you and check which side the positive (+, marked with a red ring) is on. Before buying, verify the polarity matches your current battery: switching polarity forces longer cables or system reconfiguration, with short-circuit risk.
Will the Exide EL800 battery fit my car?
Three options to confirm: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 10:00–13:30 and 16:30–18:00 (Spanish time, CET)). The EL800 fits 47 verified vehicle versions in our database.
What are the equivalents of the EL800 model?
Directly interchangeable batteries (same dimensions, same polarity, same Ah and CCA) are the OEM equivalents from leading brands: Bosch, Tudor, Exide and, depending on the model, Banner or Yuasa. Exact equivalence depends on technology — an EFB cannot be replaced with a conventional battery in Start-Stop cars. See the "Equivalents" section to view recommended options at the same performance level.
Exide EL800 or Exide EK800: which one to choose?
The AGM of this size: what cars with Start-Stop and regenerative braking fit from the factory, and a real durability upgrade over the EL800. Compared with the EL800 it has 2 Ah more. It costs 29,30 € more. Essential if your car has Start-Stop, regenerative braking or came with AGM; without those systems it is an upgrade you do not need to pay for.
Exide EL800 or Exide EK820: which one to choose?
A technology step up: sealed AGM, with stronger cranking and a noticeably longer life than the EL800 when the car draws a lot of power. Compared with the EL800 it has 2 Ah more. It costs 29,30 € more. Choose it if your car required it from the factory or if you want the longest-lasting battery for this size; for normal use without Start-Stop, the EL800 is plenty.
When is EFB fitted instead of AGM?
An EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) is a flooded lead-acid battery reinforced with plate additives (carbon and polyethylene) and thicker grids. It withstands twice the cycles of a conventional battery and handles deep discharges better, but less than an AGM. It is the original fitment on cars with basic Start-Stop (no regenerative braking): Renault Energy TCe, Peugeot/Citroën PureTech, Fiat MultiAir, Hyundai/Kia ISG, Ford EcoBoost. If your car came with EFB from the factory, this is the correct battery — upgrading to AGM is optional (marginal improvement). If it came with AGM, EFB may fall short: better fit AGM. The Exide EL800 is original and meets EN 50342-6.
Will my car recognise the new battery automatically?
On most cars it is not strictly necessary — the alternator detects the new battery and adapts the charge automatically. It is recommended to register the battery via OBD so that the alternator applies the optimal charging profile from the first minute and extends the battery life as much as possible (especially on brands with sophisticated BMS: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Land Rover). Any workshop with an OBD scanner (~10-15 € labour) does it in 5 minutes. DIY apps: VCDS / Carista (VAG), Bimmercode (BMW), iCarsoft. If you do not register, the car will still start correctly — the alternator just takes a few days to adjust the profile. The Exide EL800 ships factory-charged at 80-90% so you can use it straight after fitting.
