Format and fitting of the Varta A6

In terms of format, the Varta A6 measures 315 × 175 × 190 mm (length × width × height) and weighs 22.76 kg. The positive terminal on the right determines which side the cables sit on: it is the detail that causes the most buying mistakes, so it is worth checking before you order. It uses a B13 hold-down and a type 1 terminal, the system that anchors it to the vehicle's battery tray. For the swap to be direct, the space your current battery occupies must match those three dimensions and the same terminal layout; otherwise you will need adapters or the hold-down will have to change.

The Varta A6 and the Dynamic AGM range

The Dynamic AGM range (gold label) is Varta's top of the range for cars: AGM technology, with the electrolyte absorbed in glass fibre, designed for the most advanced Start-Stop systems and for braking energy recovery.

It withstands thousands of charge and discharge cycles without losing performance and is the only correct choice when the car came with AGM from new. Ideal for vehicles with high electrical consumption and very frequent starts.

The difference from a conventional battery lies in the construction: separators and plates built for thousands of partial charge and discharge cycles. Fitting a standard battery to a car with Start-Stop shortens its life dramatically; this range avoids that mistake and keeps the fuel-saving system working. This battery used to belong to Varta's Silver Dynamic AGM range; following the brand's change of commercial naming (2025), it now forms part of the new Dynamic AGM series.

Why choose a Varta battery

Manufactured by Clarios to German standards, Varta is one of the world's benchmark brands in starter batteries and an OEM supplier to the leading car makers. Choosing it as a replacement guarantees specifications equal to or better than the originals.

Behind Varta is Clarios, one of the largest manufacturers of starter batteries in the world and a supplier to the assembly lines of numerous car brands. That German engineering heritage translates into reliable starting year after year.

Varta is Europe's leading manufacturer of starter batteries: its production volume and quality controls guarantee consistent reliability batch after batch, something own-brand labels cannot always promise.

Manufacturer's warranty

The Varta A6 battery comes with a 2-year official warranty from the manufacturer.

Care and maintenance

In a vehicle with Start-Stop the battery works much harder, so make journeys long enough for it to recharge and always replace it with the same type (AGM for AGM, EFB for EFB) so the electronic management is not thrown out of calibration. To get the best from it, avoid very short trips, which prevent it from recharging after each start. Keeping the terminals clean and the battery securely mounted prevents faults caused by vibration in the engine bay.

How to change the battery

Step-by-step guide to replace your car battery in 15-30 minutes (longer if the battery is under the seat or in the boot) without losing vehicle settings.

⏱ 15-30 min🛠 Tools: 10 mm wrench · Protective gloves
  1. Step 1. Prepare the vehicle

Park on a flat surface, switch off the engine and remove the key. Make sure all lights and electrical accessories are off. Wait 1-2 minutes before starting.

  2. Step 2. Locate the battery

Open the bonnet. The battery is usually in the engine bay, but in many modern cars it may be in the boot or under the passenger seat. Check the manual if you cannot find it.

  3. Step 3. Disconnect the negative (−) terminal

Use the 10 mm wrench to loosen the negative cable nut (black, marked −) and remove the cable from the post. Move it aside so it cannot touch any bodywork.

  4. Step 4. Disconnect the positive (+) terminal

Repeat with the positive cable (red, marked +). Important: never let a terminal touch metal of the car while the other is still connected.

  5. Step 5. Remove the old battery

Loosen the bottom hold-down clamp with the same wrench. Lift the battery carefully (it can weigh 15-25 kg). Clean the tray with a brush and baking soda if there is corrosion.

  6. Step 6. Install the new battery

Place the battery in the same orientation as the old one (positive terminal on the same side). Tighten the hold-down clamp firmly.

  7. Step 7. Connect the cables

Connect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (−). Tighten the nuts with the wrench until each terminal does not move. Apply anti-spark grease if you have any.

  8. Step 8. Verify the engine starts

Close the bonnet. Start the engine to confirm everything works. On cars with Start-Stop or a BMS, you may need to register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.

Frequently asked questions

Is the A6 model AGM? What does this technology offer?

Yes. The A6 from Varta uses AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology: a sealed lead-acid battery where the electrolyte is absorbed in a glass-fibre mat. It withstands more charge/discharge cycles than a conventional one, handles heat better and is the required technology for cars with advanced Start-Stop and regenerative braking. Expected lifespan: 5-8 years under normal conditions.

Is the Varta A6 battery suitable for Start-Stop?

Yes. As AGM technology it is designed for Start-Stop vehicles. AGM batteries support advanced Start-Stop and regenerative braking thanks to their higher cycle count. EFB is recommended for basic Start-Stop; AGM is recommended when regenerative braking is also present, thanks to its higher cycle capability. It works straight out of the box — on most modern vehicles registering the battery via OBD is recommended so the alternator automatically applies the optimal charging profile.

How do I check that the Varta A6 battery fits my vehicle?

Three ways: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team for the A6; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 CET).

How is the Varta A6 battery installed in the vehicle?

In most cars it fits in 15-30 minutes with a 10 mm wrench; if the battery is under the seat or in the boot the time can double. See the step-by-step guide on this page. Quick summary: 1) switch off the engine and remove the key; 2) locate the original battery (engine bay, boot or under seat); 3) disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+); 4) loosen the hold-down clamp and remove the old battery; 5) fit the new one in the same orientation — match the polarity shown on the product sheet; 6) connect the positive (+) first, then the negative (−). On cars with Start-Stop or BMS, register the battery via OBD so the alternator applies the correct charging profile.

How many years of warranty does the A6 model cover?

The official manufacturer warranty is 2 years and covers manufacturing defects. It applies to defects such as damaged cells, internal short-circuits or abnormal capacity loss. It does NOT cover misuse (prolonged overcharging, inadequate charger, defective alternator). On confirmed defect after technical inspection, we replace the A6 model at no cost.

When will I receive the A6 model?

In mainland Spain and Portugal it arrives in 24 h if you order before 17:00 and the battery is in stock — it leaves the same day and arrives the next business day. Afternoon or weekend orders ship the next business day. For Balearics, Canaries and other EU destinations, allow 2-5 days. Shipping cost is calculated in the cart based on destination and service (standard, express, cash on delivery). Tracking number is sent by email + SMS as soon as the parcel ships.

How do I return the A6 model if it doesn't fit?

Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to return it. In mainland Spain and Portugal returns are FREE — we cover the return shipping cost via prepaid label. In other EU countries the return shipping cost is the customer's. It must arrive in its original packaging with no signs of installation. If it was defective, the warranty covers replacement even after the 14-day period.

How much does the Varta A6 battery cost?

The current price at baterias.com is €146.65 (VAT included; €121.20 excl. VAT), updated every 24 hours. The applicable VAT may vary with the destination country and is confirmed in the cart. Shipping cost is calculated in the cart based on destination and chosen service (standard, express, cash on delivery).

Where can I buy the Varta A6 battery?

At baterias.com — authorised distributor with real stock, 24h delivery in mainland Spain and Portugal if you order before 17:00, and full manufacturer warranty. Shipping cost is calculated in the cart based on destination and chosen service (standard, express, cash on delivery). Secure payment by card, Bizum, PayPal or bank transfer. If you choose at-home installation, our technician will take the used battery and dispose of it through an authorised collection point.

How many years does this battery last?

Expected lifespan of the Varta A6 is 5 to 8 years in mild-climate car use with Start-Stop. In cold regions it drops slightly due to cold-start stress; in very hot regions it also drops because of electrolyte evaporation. To extend its life: avoid deep discharges (headlights on with engine off), have the alternator checked yearly, and keep the battery clean and properly secured.

What are the dimensions of the Varta A6 battery?

Dimensions (length × width × height) are 315×175×190 mm — also written as 315x175x190 mm and correspond to the European L4 case size — following the European DIN standard. Always measure the space in your car before buying: even one extra millimetre can prevent the hold-down clamp from closing. The height shown includes the terminals.

What is the weight of the A6 model?

It weighs 22,6 kg. Most of the weight is lead. If you plan to fit it yourself, use gloves and a carrying strap (AGM batteries are slightly heavier than conventional due to the absorbent glass-mat fibre).

How many Ah and CCA does this battery have?

Nominal capacity 80 Ah[?cca: and [cold-cranking amps 800 A]] at 12 V. Ah measure the total energy available (autonomy); CCA (also written A in cold or EN under the European standard) measure the instantaneous power to crank the starter motor. A battery with more CCA starts better in winter; one with more Ah keeps accessories on for longer.

Is the A6 valid for my vehicle?

Three options to confirm: 1) enter your number plate in the finder (DGT/DVLA/KBA auto-detect your model and engine); 2) check the "Compatible vehicles" tab on this page, where we list every vehicle verified by our technical team; 3) if you cannot find your model, message us on WhatsApp with brand, model, engine and year — we reply during business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 CET). The A6 fits 420 verified vehicle versions in our database.

Which batteries are equivalent to the Varta A6?

Directly interchangeable batteries (same dimensions, same polarity, same Ah and CCA) are the OEM equivalents from leading brands: Bosch, Tudor, Exide and, depending on the model, Banner or Yuasa. Exact equivalence depends on technology — an EFB cannot be replaced with a conventional battery in Start-Stop cars. See the "Equivalents" section to view recommended options at the same performance level.

Which is better: Varta A6 or an alternative from another brand?

This battery and its equivalents from Bosch, Tudor or Exide are technically comparable: same dimensions, same voltage and same capacity. The differences are warranty (Varta and Bosch: 2 years; Tudor and Exide: 2 years on the equivalent line), manufacturing plant (Varta and Bosch share origin in the Clarios Group; Tudor and Exide belong to Exide Technologies) and price. For private use any of these brands will give 4-6 years of life. Compare them in the "Equivalents" section.
