They include reinforcements against vibration and waves, and a casing prepared for the marine environment. They deliver a very high intensity for a few seconds, which is exactly what is required for the starting of an outboard or inboard engine.

Do not use it as a service battery: a starting battery subjected to repeated deep discharges degrades in a few months. If you need to power the fridge, sonar or lights, install a separate service bank with a Dual Purpose or a lithium battery.
