Leoch: deep cycle AGM built to work every day

Leoch has been making batteries since 1999. It is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange (00842.HK), headquartered in Singapore, and runs 21 production plants, more than 80 service companies and customers in over 160 countries, with 15,000 staff and more than 1,500 in R&D. It is one of the few manufacturers covering starter, stationary and motive lead-acid with its own production.

The LDC series is its deep cycle AGM range: thick plates, a carbon additive and an absorbent glass mat separator. It is built for machines that are drained hard every day and plugged in overnight — golf buggies, aerial work platforms, floor scrubbers, wheelchairs, mobility scooters. Being sealed (VRLA) it needs no distilled water, does not gas in normal use and can be mounted on its side, which is the practical difference against a flooded battery such as a Trojan.

• Golf buggy — the classic six 8V units, or six to eight 6V units. The GC2 (6V) and GC8 (8V) cases are the standard trays: they drop straight in.
• Scissor and boom lifts — LDC 6V from 245 to 400 Ah and LDC 12V from 105 to 245 Ah, with DT dual terminals so the original wiring fits.
• Scrubbers and sweepers — LDC 12V from 90 to 150 Ah. Sealed means no topping up water in a shop with customers inside.

Direct swaps for classic flooded batteries

The LDC catalogue is drawn on the industry standard cases, so replacement is almost always direct. The LDC6-224-GC2 (6V 224 Ah, 260×180×253 mm) uses the same GC2 case as a Trojan T-105 (6V 225 Ah, 262×181×283 mm) and sits 30 mm lower. The LDC8-165-GC8 (8V 165 Ah, 260×180×274 mm) does the same against the T-875 (8V 170 Ah, 259×180×283 mm). In 12V, groups 24, 27 and 31 are the same footprints as any starter battery of that size.

Leoch vs Trojan vs Fullriver

Flooded Trojan still gives the longest deep cycle life, but it needs distilled water every one or two months and equalisation. Leoch LDC is the sealed AGM option: zero maintenance, no spills, works on its side, at the cost of somewhat fewer cycles and with a clearly lower price. Fullriver plays in the same AGM league with a longer track record in marine and solar. If the machine lives in a public space, or nobody checks the level every month, sealed wins outright; if you have a workshop and a technician, flooded still pays off long term.

Frequently asked questions

Do Leoch LDC batteries need maintenance?

No. They are sealed AGM (VRLA): they are not opened, not topped up with distilled water and not equalised. Just charge them on an AGM profile and do not leave them flat.

Which Leoch replaces a Trojan T-105?

The LDC6-224-GC2: same GC2 case, 6V and 224 Ah against the T-105’s 225 Ah, and 30 mm lower. For more range in the same slot, the LDC6-245.

What do GC2, GC8, GC12 and groups 24, 27 and 31 mean?

They are standard case formats. GC2, GC8 and GC12 are the 6V, 8V and 12V golf buggy trays; groups 24, 27 and 31 are the classic 12V BCI footprints. If your current battery is one of those, the matching Leoch fits without touching the tray.

Can they be mounted on their side?

Yes. With the electrolyte absorbed in glass mat there is no free acid to spill, so any position is fine except upside down.

What is a DT terminal?

A dual terminal: it carries both the automotive taper post and the bolt. The -DT versions in the catalogue use it so you do not have to change the original cable ends.

How many do I need for a 48V golf buggy?

Six 8V units (6×8=48V) or eight 6V units (8×6=48V), always in series and always the same model, same age and same state of charge.
