The Varta B36 car battery is the 12 V, 44 Ah model with 420 A of cold cranking power (EN) from Varta's Dynamic SLI (formerly Black Dynamic) range, intended for cars with conventional starting, without a Start-Stop system. It replaces the original battery with no modifications in cars using the 175 × 175 × 190 mm format: the same 44 Ah capacity and the same terminal layout (positive on the right).

Its external dimensions are 175 × 175 × 190 mm and it weighs 11,5 kg. The positive terminal on the right determines which side the cables end up on: it is the detail that causes the most buying mistakes, so it is worth checking before you order. It uses a B13 hold-down and terminal 1, the system that anchors it to the vehicle's battery tray. The Varta B36 and the Dynamic SLI range
The Dynamic SLI range is Varta's conventional starter series for cars and vans without a Start-Stop system (identified by the blue label in Varta's new scheme; it replaces the former Blue, Black and Silver Dynamic). It uses lead-calcium technology with PowerFrame grids that reduce self-discharge and extend service life with no maintenance.
It is the balanced option in the catalogue: it covers most of Europe's conventional petrol and diesel fleet, with ample cranking power and an excellent performance-to-price ratio.
This series uses lead-acid technology with plates optimised for a good balance between cranking power and service life. It is the natural successor when your car has no Start-Stop and came with a standard battery from new: the same thinking, without paying over the odds for a chemistry you do not need. This battery used to belong to Varta's Black Dynamic, Silver Dynamic or Black Dynamic range; following the brand's commercial renaming (2025), it forms part of the new Dynamic SLI series.

Care and maintenance
To get the most out of it, keep the alternator in good order and avoid leaving lights or accessories on with the engine switched off. Repeated very short journeys are its main enemy: they stop the battery from recharging fully and shorten its life. If the car is going to stand unused for weeks, it is worth disconnecting the terminal or using a trickle charger so it does not drop below the safe threshold. Making sure the terminals are clean and properly tightened also helps towards reliable starting.
