Cyclic or deep-cycle batteries are designed to discharge repeatedly to 50-80% of their capacity without sulphating — the exact opposite of a starter battery. How to choose the right cyclic battery

Cyclic batteries are rated by cycles at X% DoD (Depth of Discharge). "1,200 cycles at 50% DoD" means 1,200 discharge-recharge cycles to 50% before capacity drops to 80% of rated. Lead-acid rule: never below 50%. LiFePO4 admits 100% DoD with no penalty.
